Aaron Bain Racing and Summit Bloodstock’s evolving presence in Western Australian harness racing has continued with the purchase of fast class pacer The Mustang.
Aaron Bain, principal of ABR, said in partnership with Summit Bloodstock, the purchase of The Mustang was completed late on Thursday evening after the necessary vet checks were undertaken and cleared.
A five-year-old by Changeover, the gelding has amassed 15 wins and 27 placings from 64 starts earning $157,129 in stakes, with a 1.49 winning mile rate alongside his name.
“With our partner Summit Bloodstock, we were able to purchase this exciting 5YO making it a big seven days with the G1 winning Kimble joining the team earlier in the week,” Bain said.
The Mustang has been competing strongly in NSW against the likes of Cash N Flow and Mach Shard, with one of his career defining runs when 5th beaten just 6m behind Expensive Ego in the 2021 Chariots Of Fire, in a sizzling 1.48.9.
“The Mustang is currently campaigning in Brisbane with trainer Bernie Hewitt and engaged at Albion Park on Saturday.
“With the sale completed Thursday evening, he will race for us in the Group 3 The Flashing Red Discretionary (2647m) starting from outside the front in the stand start conditions.
“Since he is already in Queensland for the Winter Carnival, we will make a collective decision following the Group 3 on Saturday if he stays on in QLD or makes the trip west to continue his preparation with trainer Michael Young.
The Mustang has explosive gate speed which is what attracted us to him for the Gloucester Park style of racing.
“We expect him to be well suited to WA with the ultimate goal of the $450,00 WA Pacing Cup and the $300,000 Fremantle Cup early next year.
“The short-term plan will be decided over the weekend but ultimately the plan will be make the trip west, before then taking on America once flights are available.
