Two subtle changes helped consistent Tan Tat Beau breakthrough for his first win at Gawler on
Thursday, November 17.
Trainer Aaron Bain applied blinkers to the four-year-old, and also booked apprentice Ellis Wong to
ride.
Wong was able to claim 2kg bringing Tan Tat Beau’s weight down to 56kg.
Backed from $2.20 into $1.75 favourite, the gelding sprinted strongly from midfield to win the
Holdfast Insurance Brokers Maiden (1100m).
Tan Tat Beau passed the post two lengths clear of Sipsmith ($18) with Iknowhatyouredoing ($4.60), a
half-length away third.
Bain said he had been confident it would only be a matter of time before Tan Tat Beau won.
“He has had three runs for us and been really good,” Bain said.
“He had two seconds here at Gawler before a third at Morphettville.
“In those seconds, he hit the front then got caught late, and Grey River, which beat him the second
time, went on to be placed at Flemington to validate the form.
“Today, we added the blinkers to help his concentration.
“Barend (Vorster) has ridden him perfectly, but we thought to use Ellis’ claim to get him down to
56kg while many of his rivals had the 58kg.
“Ellis rode him really well today, settling back in the middle of the field then coming with a run in the
home straight.
“It was Tan Tat Beau that was coming with the final burst today and he won really well.”
Bain said there was a Class 1 over 1200 metres at the next Gawler meeting on Wednesday,
November 30 which could suit.
Tan Tat Beau was purchased earlier this year by Bain.
“He had two runs for Peter Moody in Victoria and the owners decided to put him up for sale.
“Stable foreman Ned Taylor and I gave him some time to settle in and we have been delighted with
his first preparation.”
