Dual Pressure

High-cost purchase Dual Pressure delivered a first up win for trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor at Morphettville on Adelaide Cup day, Monday, March 10.

Ridden by Jason Holder, Dual Pressure surprised by setting second then holding his rivals at bay in the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (1200m).

The four-year-old, a $6.50 chance, had a long neck to spare from Spirit Of Camelot ($4.40) with Three Rings ($16) a head away third.

Having his first start since December 7 when third at Ballarat, Dual Pressure showed more early speed than expected and settled right behind Super Alana, the well backed $2.10 favourite.

Holder asked the gelding to go form home turning for home and he quickly assumed control but there were a number of challengers.

Dual Pressure responded and held them off to win impressively.

Trainer Aaron Bain revealed there had been added pressure saddling up Dual Pressure.

“He had a big price tag ($220,000) but he is a good horse,” Bain said.

“We couldn’t believe his price today.

“We are not a punting stable, but we honestly thought he was the one to beat.

“Following scratchings we thought Super Alana might get it easy in front and we didn’t expect to be outside the leader ourselves.

“That was a peach by Stubby (Holder).

“The game plan was to be back with cover, we thought wee would be three wide with cover, but he just pinged the gates.

“It was a smart ride; he sat on the cool tempo, and he was really strong late.

“We opened the cheque book to buy this horse, but we believe he can win it back and more.

“There is a lot of new owners in this horse, but also a lot who have backed us in.

“We went into our ABR Gala Ball in early February with as lot of him left to sell but he sold out after the Ball.

“We are hoping Dual Pressure can be our first Group winner and he and Bakeel which won on Saturday can head to Listed races during our carnival.

“I think Dual Pressure is capable of stepping up to Group 3 level.”

Winning jockey Jason Holder said early race plans for Dual Pressure had gone out the window on jumping away.

“I had expected to be wide with cover in midfield early,” Holder said.

“I just had to ride him how he jumped.

“Aaron and Ned are great to ride for, they basically leave it to me.

“We have a theory how we want the race to be run but if things change I will take the race on.

“Because he jumped so well I thought I had to go forward and sit outside the leader.

“Tracking one of the best jockeys in the world Blake Shinn, I thought if I could beat him I would win the race.

“I could see Blake was under pressure before the turn, but I didn’t want to get there too soon.

“I felt over the last 50 metres he was waiting for them, so he is probably better off being ridden cold.”
