A plan came to fruition when Godofthunder led throughout in the $14,999 2021 Redcliffe Trotters
Cup (2613m) on Saturday, June 26.
Aaron Bain Racing part-owns the star trotter with Domenic Martello, and Aaron Bain said he and
trainer Narissa McMullen engineered a Cup plan.
“Godofthunder was handicapped off the front while the majority of his rivals were off handicap
marks,” Bain said.
“He is a good beginner, so the plan was to make his rivals have to chase hard around the smaller
Redcliffe track.
“Credit to driver Matt Elkins, he carried the plan out perfectly.”
Godofthunder had a smart lead time of 79.8 seconds then kept rolling.
Elkins let him run quarters of 30.8 and 30.0 seconds for the first two quarters of the last 1600 metres
before increasing for a 28.9 second third quarter.
His rivals were finding it too tough to make ground and launch any sort of challenge to the bold front
Godofthunder got tired over the final 400 metres running a 30.9 second final quarter but he still had
a big enough margin to win.
Sent out at $4.50, Godofthunder beat Our Overanova ($51), which had come off 35 metres, by 1.7
metres with Sir Fahrenheit ($11), off 20 metres, 6.4 metres away third.
He rated 2:03.4 compared with the track record of 2:01.2 recorded by Empire Bay in 2019.
The Cup was Godofthunder’s first 11 from 11 starts this season but he has had six placings and
collected more than $18,000 in stakes.
It was his fourth feature win for ABR over three states.
He started with the 2019 Maori’s Idol Plate at Globe Derby Park on August 31, 2019.
Godofthunder was sent on a one run mission to Tasmania in December that year to take out the
Launceston Trotting Cup.
His next major win was the 2020 Hambletonian at Gawler in March 2020 coming off a 20-metre
handicap, and now he has added the Redcliffe Trotters Cup to his collection.
