Sprint specialist Brantley won his third race during South Australia’s Scamper Series at Globe Derby
Park on Monday, June 7.
The Aaron Bain-trained five-year-old was back to his winning formula sitting one-out, one-back early
before sprinting to victory in the home straight.
Driven by Ryan Hryhorec, Brantley ($2.40 fav) scored a neck win in the Mitavite Scamper Heat 9
(1385m) beating Arrokeefe ($5) with Ayejayem ($6), 2-1/2 metres away third.
Ayejayem was able to hold the lead from gate one with Arrokeefe coming across quickly from gate
five but just unable to find the lead.
Hryhorec eased Brantley onto the back of Arrokeefe and waited until nearly straightening before
coming wide and allowing the gelding to reel in the leaders and grab the win.
Trainer Aaron Bain said the Scamper races were ideal for the gelding.
“He loves just racing over the short trip and dashing home up the straight,” Bain said.
“Last week he fired up at the start and Ryan had to take him to the front but that is not his best
racing pattern.
“He much prefers to have a sit and dash at the leaders late.
“After last week I made a few gear changes which worked, and he wasn’t as stirred up early.
“He has won three of his four Scamper starts and I will give him another two runs next week.”
Brantley is one of the top points scorers in the series which will culminate in a $14,000 final at Globe
Derby Park on Saturday, June 26.
The gelding has picked up nearly $6500 so far during the Mitavite Scamper Series.
